Concept and Design

With the Lloyd storage units and bookcases, Jean-Marie Massaud has designed an entire system with variable geometry, offering an extensive range of solutions in different shapes, configurations, and sizes.

Slender vertical wooden rods form lightweight screens that slide along the entire length on invisible horizontal tracks. Each screen can be moved as desired to create ever-changing sequences. A shifting composition of solids and voids, light and shadow.

A sensual interplay that offers glimpses of the contents—books and objects—without revealing them completely. Cutting-edge technology meets traditional materials, wood and leather, to create a solid, essential structure.

The Lloyd High Cabinet by Poltrona Frau is designed for those who want a storage piece capable of combining architectural function, visual order, and a strong material identity. Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, it interprets storage in a sophisticated way through a system of sliding grids that allows the relationship between solids and voids to be adjusted, between what should be displayed and what is better kept more discreet. It is an ideal solution for those who are not looking for a simple tall cabinet, but for a piece of furniture capable of interacting with light, with the composition of the space, and with the overall identity of the interior.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Lloyd High Cabinet is its ability to provide storage without appearing heavy. For this reason, it is particularly suitable for those who want to organize books, decorative objects, accessories, or documents while maintaining a sense of visual lightness. The oak grids slide and transform the perception of the cabinet, creating an elegant partially concealed effect that makes the whole piece feel more dynamic and less static than a traditional storage unit. This is especially useful for people who want to keep things organized without hiding them completely, particularly when the cabinet contains beautiful objects worth displaying but not necessarily keeping fully visible at all times.

In a contemporary living room, the Lloyd High Cabinet works particularly well for those who want an important vertical element capable of giving structure to a wall or adding a focal point to a large space. It can be chosen by those with high ceilings, by those looking for a statement storage piece for a main wall, or by those who want to enrich a living area with furniture that is not only functional but also strongly decorative. In larger interiors, its vertical rhythm and controlled transparency help introduce movement, while in more essential settings it adds depth and dynamism without weighing down the room.

From a materials perspective, the product is particularly suitable for those who appreciate the combination of oak, leather, and high-level craftsmanship. Sources indicate a construction based on solid oak grids, oak-veneered HPL shelves, vertical uprights covered in leather, and, depending on the configuration, matte black MDF rear panels or leather-lined interiors. This combination makes the Lloyd High Cabinet ideal for interiors where fine materials play a leading role: homes with high-quality parquet flooring, leather furnishings, dark wood tables, textured rugs, or neutral and deep color palettes. It is an especially suitable choice for those looking for a wood-and-leather cabinet capable of conveying quality, warmth, and design precision.

The Lloyd High Cabinet also finds a natural place in professional environments. In executive offices, advanced home offices, private meeting rooms, showrooms, and representative workspaces, it can be used as an authoritative yet sophisticated storage piece. It is particularly suitable for those who want furniture that communicates order, design culture, and attention to detail while also providing space for books, objects, samples, or work materials. In these settings, the cabinet does more than serve a practical purpose: it becomes an integral part of the image of the space.

The product is also very interesting from a compositional point of view. Its availability in wall-mounted or freestanding versions, as indicated by the sources, makes it suitable for custom projects or spaces with specific layout requirements. In an open-plan environment, it can help organize different functions more effectively; in a living room, it can complete an important wall; in a study, it can provide storage without creating the austere effect of a traditional filing unit. It is an ideal solution for people looking for a balance between order and lightness, storage and beauty, privacy and the display of objects.

Its aesthetic language makes it particularly convincing in warm minimalist, contemporary, or modern-classic interiors, where design should feel neither cold nor excessive. The Lloyd High Cabinet appeals to those who appreciate quiet luxury, well-proportioned volumes, and furniture capable of changing its appearance throughout the day through its relationship with light and the shadows created by the grids. It is a piece designed for those who recognize the value of construction details and want a storage unit that does not disappear into the space, but visually improves it.
