Concept and Design

The Nymph designer lamp family designed by Sebastian Herkner is inspired by the namesake female deities of Greek mythology: personifications of nature at the service of humans. Based on the notion of a gentle presence accompanying people’s daily lives, comes a blown glass lamp featuring a finely pleated shade, seemingly floating weightlessly atop the leather-covered base. A button set into the lampshade is an ode to the classic leather “button” characteristic of Poltrona Frau upholstery. When lit, the light transforms into a graceful light sculpture of sorts.

The Nymph floor lamp is designed for those seeking much more than a simple source of light. Its tall, slender silhouette and material-rich presence make it an ideal choice for interiors where lighting is expected to do more than illuminate: it should also furnish the space, define its atmosphere and introduce a distinctive design statement. The blown-glass shade, featuring a ribbed texture, diffuses a soft, enveloping light, while the base upholstered in Pelle Frau ColorSphere leather and accented with brass details adds a precious, tactile dimension that complements high-end furnishings and meticulously curated interiors.

In the living room, Nymph is particularly well suited to settings where elegant ambient lighting is desired without compromising a strong aesthetic identity. It can complement a statement sofa, enhance a conversation area or complete a corner beside an armchair, where the light should not be harsh but should instead create a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to its dimming function and touch control, the lamp meets the needs of those who wish to adjust the lighting throughout the day, moving from a more pronounced brightness to a softer, more subdued glow.

The bedroom is another natural setting for Nymph, particularly in projects where a conventional task lamp is to be replaced with something more emotionally expressive. It is ideal for those seeking soft lighting for evening relaxation, reading, conversation or simply making the room feel more inviting. In spacious bedrooms or private suites, its height and sculptural character allow it to give visual presence to an otherwise empty area without overwhelming the space, helping create a sophisticated and tranquil atmosphere.

Nymph is equally compelling in contract and hospitality projects. In a lounge, hotel suite, reception area or executive space, the lamp can serve as a striking lighting feature that immediately conveys quality, craftsmanship and design sensibility. The combination of glass, leather and metal makes it particularly suitable for interiors that seek to express understated luxury through authentic materials and thoughtfully resolved details rather than ostentatious effects.

From a stylistic perspective, Nymph is particularly well suited to contemporary, soft-luxury and modern-classic interiors, as well as spaces featuring textile surfaces, warm-toned woods, darkened metals, brass or other leather elements. Those furnishing a neutral-toned interior and looking to introduce depth, or seeking to balance cool surfaces with warmer materials, will find this lamp a harmonious addition. Its leather-upholstered base is more than a decorative detail: it reinforces the perception of the lamp as a fully fledged furnishing element that integrates naturally with sofas, armchairs and accessories.

Another quality that makes Nymph appealing is its ability to accommodate highly individual needs. It is an excellent choice for those seeking a substantial yet unobtrusive lamp, warm lighting to make an open-plan space more welcoming, or a design piece that brings together craftsmanship, LED technology and formal innovation. Its diffused light, clean silhouette and high-quality materials make it suitable for spaces where the goal is not simply to illuminate, but to create a feeling of calm, refinement, visual comfort and identity.

In residential interiors, Nymph is particularly appealing to those who appreciate objects with a strong material presence and consider lighting an integral part of interior design. In professional or executive settings, it meets the needs of those wishing to convey prestige and attention to detail without resorting to overly conspicuous solutions. It is a lamp that works beautifully wherever light is intended to complement the architecture, enhance materials and contribute to a softer, more welcoming and memorable spatial experience.
